I never knew the name of the plant nor that there was a game known to anyone besides my sister and myself who would pluck the longest stemmed ones and "shoot" them at each other by folding the long stem over itself near the base of the flower and pull, popping the flower off and sending it flying. If the flower was well-chosen and well-"loaded" it would fly a great distance. Such simple fun.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3946913143265151282.post-1652457726149062222010-04-30T12:03:20.418+01:002010-04-30T12:03:20.418+01:00Thanks both, this is a very sweet little bee and I...Thanks both, this is a very sweet little bee and I am now adding plantains to my leave alone list!
CF it is a great excuse not to weed and my mother was brought up in Scotland and I think the game originated there.
E I did laugh!sharp green pencilhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03995814359038535193noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3946913143265151282.post-10852791494472329152010-04-28T18:13:04.134+01:002010-04-28T18:13:04.134+01:00When I was growing up, the thing to do was pluck a...When I was growing up, the thing to do was pluck a dandelion flower, hold it close to the flower head and say "Mama had a baby and its head popped off." When you reached the word "popped" you used your thumb to flick the flower head off the stem, sending it flying away. I never understood this, but it was the thing to do, so I did it with the other kids. Rather gruesome, in retrospect.Ellen Rathbonehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17684750034177425795noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3946913143265151282.post-69778237009575319142010-04-28T16:16:29.157+01:002010-04-28T16:16:29.157+01:00What a lovely little bee. I grew up in England, but was never aware of the beheading game, interesting.Curbstone Valley Farmhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06714297348566721344noreply@blogger.com
